From the perspective of power transmission efficiency, a helix gear is a type of gear where the teeth
are arranged spirally relative to the axis. It achieves efficient power transfer through progressive tooth engagement
and serves as a core component in medium-to-high-speed transmission systems.
Its defining feature is the extensive tooth surface contact area, with meshing occurring progressively rather than instantaneously.
Key advantages include high transmission efficiency (achieving 97%-99%), minimal power loss,
approximately 30% greater load capacity than equivalent spur gears, and reduced impact and vibration during operation.
When a pair of helical gears meshes, the spiral tooth surface of the driving gear initially contacts the driven gear's tooth surface
via point contact. As rotation progresses, this transitions to line contact, with the contact area gradually expanding
along the tooth direction before contracting. This avoids the tooth surface impact inherent in spur gear meshing.
Concurrently, the helical angle increases the tooth surface contact area, reducing stress per unit area
and thereby enhancing transmission efficiency and load capacity.
Suitable for medium-to-high-speed, high-efficiency transmission scenarios, such as the main helical gears in automotive transmissions,
drive gears for centrifugal fans, transmission gears in large air compressors, and reduction gears for marine main engines.
